How to Apply for a Japan Tourist Visa in Dubai? (For Filipinos)

According to passportindex.org Philippine Passport is number 57 all over the world, that's why visas are always a major hassle for many Filipino travelers. One look at the list of requirements some will definitely feel intimidated by it. I've heard lots of stories about getting denied of a visa but finally Japan actually relaxed in issuing Tourist Visas to Filipinos. Anyone who applied with proper documents is almost guaranteed to get a visa.

If you are planning on a short vacay to Japan and you are residing in Dubai the process of getting a visa is much easier than in Manila. Sounds good right?

When i am in Japan a lot of my friends from Dubai are sending me messages and asking me about applying a tourist visa to Japan.

So here you go, below are the steps on how to apply a Japan Tourist Visa for Filipinos in Dubai, UAE. I hope the informations below can help you. I cannot guarantee you about getting a visa i just wrote about my own experience on applying a visa.

Best of luck! :)

Requirements for a Tourist Visa to Japan:

1. Passport
  • Must have atleast 6 months validity, with signature and more than 2 blank pages.
2. Visa Application Form
  • Make sure everything you write in the forms are correct. Don't leave any blank just put N/A if not applicable.
  • You can download the application form here.
3. Bank Statement
  • You need a 3 months bank statement to show that you are financially capable of supporting yourself for the duration of your vacation in Japan. It is known that the cost of living in Japan is high so you have to be smart about how you will be presenting your financial standing.
  • I got my bank statement through Emirates NBD. It cost 25dhs and they automatically debited it in your bank account.
4. Photo
  • Needs to be taken within 6 months.
  • In size 4.5cm x 4.5cm (2X2) in white background
  • Photo must be pasted on the application form.
5. Certificate of Employment
  • The position, date of joining, monthly salary and leave period have to be stated on the letter.
6. Schedule of Stay/Travel Itinerary
  • Below is the sample of my schedule of stay. You can download the template here.
7. Additional Requirements
  • Passport Copy
  • UAE Visa Page Copy
  • Hotel Bookings - I would suggest to book your Hotel in booking.com and choose a hotel that offers a free cancellation of booking, so whenever you find a cheaper hotel you can cancel it without paying charges. You need a credit card to book your hotel in booking.com however there are some travel agency who can provide a hotel booking for you. 50dhs - 100dhs/each per hotel booking.
  • Copy of confirmation of Flight Booking - Do not book your flight yet when you haven't got your visa. Lots of travel agency can book your ticket and reserve your flight on your chosen date but after issuing the ticket it will be cancelled before 24hours. This is the dummy ticket. People in Dubai.. I bet you know this very well!

Where to apply?

You can apply your visa to Consulate General of Japan in Dubai near World Trade Center Metro Station. Below are the address, email and contact numbers of the consulate. Please note that visa application is from 9am to 12pm only and for Visa collection 12pm-1pm only.

Once you reach the consulate you need to get a number to the machine and wait for your number to be called. They will ask you a few question like why do you want to go to Japan, where you will go in Japan, about your job in Dubai and how many years you are working here. After submitting all your requirements they will give you a receipt with the date when to collect your passport and a sticker with number. I got my visa after 4 days!

FYI! Visa application fee is FREE for Filipinos. Yay!

NOTE:

If you have guarantors in Japan or you're visiting a friend/relative then you are required to send additional documents (Invitation letter, residence certificate, foreign registration etc.). I have a relatives in Japan but i've read in some other blogs that the most simplest and convenient way to apply a visa is not to declare that you have relatives and friends in japan so the embassy/consulate will not ask for more additional requirements proving your relationship and creating tons of invitation letters to your guarantor. I only know the process of getting a tourist visa without guarantor so in case you have questions. You can check the official list on this website

And on my next blog post i will be posting some of my photos during my trip in Japan and will post some tips about where to stay, where to go and what to eat? :)

  1. Nice. I'm glad I came to your blog. I saw the link in youtube. I thought it is impossible to go to Japan from Dubai. I did plan to apply my visa in Philippines, but I think there's no need. heheheh! I've been reading different blogs about their experience traveling to Japan, but I find your Blog more specific. Anyway, I just wanted to ask if the price posted in Booking.com/tripadvisor.com is the same price collected on the accommodation your staying?. Thank you Very much :D :D

I always booked my hotel through Booking.com the price is accurate. Whatever you have on the booking confirmation that is the amount you will pay during your stay. No worries there is no additional charges. :)

  2. Good Afternoon. Just wanted to ask if how much is the minimum balance needed in a Bank to get the Bank statement. Is AED 5K is okay? heheheh :D I am planning to go to Japan first for 3 days before going to Philippines and then returning back here in Dubai... :D Thank you. Happy New year.

    1. Hello There! Happy New Year!

Japanese Embassy and Consulate are not strict on giving a visa for Filipinos unlike before, but you need to make sure that you have the necessary fund for your stay. I think you need to add more fund on your bank. I would suggest before you pay your bills get a bank statement and apply for a visa.Once you get denied for a visa the Embassy or The Consulate will not tell you the reason why you didn't get it.

If you have more questions don't hesitate to comment here. Will reply to you as soon as i can.

    1. Hi Luisa,

Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm glad that it helps you.

About your question. Don't book your flight yet unless you got the visa. Lots of travel agency can issue you a dummy ticket for just 50-100dhs. Just make sure the date and time on the ticket will match your itinerary (Schedule of Stay).

If your application got denied you can only re-apply after 6months. Be positive, since you are here in the UAE you got a big chance that you'll get a visa to Japan.

I just got my second visa last month my tip is just plan and know the places you are planning to visit in Japan as they will ask you a few questions before you submit all the requirements and ofcourse make sure you are capable of supporting yourself in Japan.

If you have questions. Please don't hesitate to ask. I will reply as soon as i can.

    1. Hi Christina,

Thanks for visiting my blog. Below is my answer to your Q's.

      2. If your target month na magtravel is December . I would suggest na mag apply ka ng visa by November.

      3. Hindi naman. I think nanghihingi lang sila ng confirm flight ticket to make sure about your travel plan at tsaka para icompare sa travel itinerary mo.

If you still have questions. Please don't hesitate to message me here.

      Sana makatulong ako sayo. :)

hmm Okay po. Thank you. Clear na ang booking ng Dummy Ticket.

Yes tama yan kahit siguro second week ng November they will process it in 4days lang. I would suggest to submit all your requirements by Sunday so by Thursday marerelease na yung passport mo so hindi siya aabuting ng Weekend. :)

According to the list of requirements given by the Japanese Consulate. You still need to provide an itinerary along with your application. FYI, the days of your stay will depends on the Japanese Consulate.

I've applied twice pero max. 15 days lang talaga ang binigay nila sa akin although on my second application i gave them a letter requesting for a Multiple Entry visa.

    1. Hi Christina,

Hope all is well. If i'm not mistaken, Japanese Consulate/Embassy is giving only 15days maximum stay for Tourist Visa valid for 3 months and they are the one who will decide kung ilang days ang ibibigay sa visa applicant. If she will be applying for 30days, your Aunt needs a huge amount on her bank statement to prove that she can support her stay in Japan unless may sponsor siya. Tsaka mahirap yung 30days na itinerary pag ginawa you need to think of places na bibisitahin mo within that 30 days.

  27. Hi Michael!

    I hope all is well.

Last year June 2015 nag apply ako ng japan tourist visa dito sa Dubai. So this coming November 2016, mag a-apply ako ulit kaso with guarantor na ng friend ko. Sana maka chamba na ako this time.

Salamat talaga sa blog mo!Informative masyado and full of wisdom! :)

    1. Hi Jorge,

Hope all is well. Thanks for visiting my blog.

That's the thing, If they refused your visa hindi sila nagsasabi ng reason. I think one of the reason they denied your visa application is dahil 6months ka pa lang sa company mo so hindi pa strong yung ties mo sa company mo at syempre dito sa UAE. Tsaka you just finished your probation.

If you are planning to come to Japan by March 2017. Apply your visa a month before masyado pang maaga ang November. mas maganda din yun kase medyo matagal tagal ka na sa company mo at may ilang buwan ka pa to make ipon at ayusin ang bank statement mo.

Review all your documents, make sure everything is correct and alam mo yung nakasulat don sa Travel Itinerary mo.

I'm sure you'll get the visa this time. Stay positive. Walang sukuan!

Let me know if you have questions pa. I will response as soon as i can. :)

Good day and thanks sa reply.

Tanong ko lang, okay lang naman mag apply sa december tas yung plan vacation ko is sa march 2017 no? And im planning to stay for 7 days. Baka kasi bigyan ako more than 7 days pa (which is maganda). Kasi im planning to book a ticket now, maraming promo.

      Best regards,
      Jorge

    3. Hi Jorge,

      Hope all is well.

I think that is not possible. When you applied for a visa yung date ng release ng passport mo is yung start ng validity nung visa. So if you apply in December by March 2017 expired na yung visa.

Better apply by February 2017. 15days ang binibigay nilang for temporary visitors visa or tourist.

FYI, the more days you put on your application kailangan malaki din ang nasa bank statement mo to prove them that you can support yourself during your whole stay in Japan.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm glad that my blog helped you on your visa application.

I don't think it will affect your visa application. I would suggest to apply your visa earlier. The thing is, if yung visa mo will expire by June. Need mo yang i-renew ng mas maaga diba? Hindi ako sure if pwede ka pang magtravel with 2 months validity sa visa mo.

    1. Hi Melanie,

I've submitted a letter but unluckily hindi ako nagrant ng Multiple Entry Visa. I think medyo mahigpit sila dito sa UAE in issuing multiple entry visa. Sa pilipinas nagbibigay sila. I have tons of friends na may multiple entry visa na.

    1. Hello!

      Thanks for visiting my blog.

I spent 100dhs lang for my dummy ticket. Yung itinerary ko is ako lang yung gumawa. I would suggest ikaw ang gumawa ng travel itinerary mo para alam mo yung mga pupuntahan mo and do some research kase may kaunting questions sila for you, but no worries it will take like 2-3 mins lang regarding lang yun sa mga pupuntahan mo.

Pinili ko lang yung free cancellation para pwede kong i-cancel without charges sa credit card ko whenever they will refuse me for a visa.

Hope your visa will be granted. Let me know if you still have more questions.

The consular officer will ask you about your job and your itinerary.

      Example Q's are;
How many years you are working in Dubai?
      What is your job?
When do you plan to travel in Japan?
      How many days?
Where you will go in Japan?

Basic questions lang at madali lang. It will take 2-3minutes lang.

Good day! I need your advse. Last year nagrant na ko ng Japan Visa December 2015. Sa Pilipinas ako nag apply ng visa before and now nagpaplan ako mag apply ulit kaso ang problem ko 6months palang ako sa company at mismong Dubai, wala pa rin ako bank account dito sa Dubai so I prefer na Philippine Bank Statement ang ipoprovide ko sana. Accepted kaya? Last thing, hindi ako manggagaling ng Dubai to Japan. Manggagaling ako ng Manila. Do you think advisable na dito ako mag apply ng visa or sa Pinas nalang?

I hope you can help me. Thanks bruh!

      Thanks for visiting my blog.

To be honest, i'm not sure if pwede yung bank statement mo from the Philippines but still you can try na isubmit since hindi naman sila masyadong mahigpit unlike applying for Schengen Visa / US & UK Visa. I would suggest ipostpone mo muna yung visa application mo siguro pag mag 8 months - 1 year ka na sa company tinitingnan kase nila if you have a strong ties with your company.

No worries, when i applied for my visa. I've submitted as well my roundtrip DXB - MNL ticket para makita nila na i'll come back to Dubai.

Good luck! Basta subukan mo pa rin. Visa application is free naman at i'm sure mavivisahan ka kase nagrant ka na ng isang beses. :)

I've decided to booked a 2 different roundtrip flights as i really want to take a rest before i go back to Dubai for work and to give pasalubong na rin for my family.. I would strongly suggest to book another flight from MNL to JAPAN because if you will be traveling from Japan to Dubai. Carrying a luggage from airport to hotel will be very hassle. Yes, i've been charged for our travel tax.

If you are traveling this May. Apply your visa end of February or first week of March. Don't book any flight and hotel yet. Wait for your visa to be approved.

If you will be traveling by June 2017. I would suggest apply your visa last week of April or first week of May. 9-10K is enough basta planuhin mo lang yung itinerary mo.

Chances are you'll get the visa.

do i need a bank statement na malaking halaga kahit na may guarantor?
and when should i apply my visa, pwede last week of may or first wik of june?
do in need to specify my itinerary everyday?
and plano ko kc maghanap na ngaun ng mga murang ticket, kung mag dudummy ticket ako papayag kaya sila na magpa reserve na ng maaga pro gagamitin pa sa may or june and kung ma approve dun pa lang ecoconfirm.. :) thank you! :) salamat talaga!!! God Blessed you always!

    1. Hi Anjz,

      Thanks for visiting my blog.

If you have a guarantor. As what i've read on their website pwede na ang magprovide ng bank statement mo ay yung guarantor mo. You can provide din as well para isupport yung trip mo. I would suggest mag apply ka ng visa mo ng last week ng May. Please note that 15 days maximum of stay lang ang binibigay ng Japan Consulate so yung plan mo na 24 days pwede lang siya if Multiple entry ang ibigay nila sayo na maximum of 30days stay. Yes you still need an itinerary just to show them anung gagawin mo sa Japan. May mga travel agency naman na nagbubook ng ticket na refundable or mga website na pwede mong icancel kaso may cancellation charge siya if i'm not mistaken.

Let me know if you still have questions. :)

Last week ko lang nakuha japan visa ko with guarantor of my friend. 6 days yung inapply ko pero 15 days binigay nila (which is tama si Michael 15 days maximum binibigay nila). Dummy ticket ginamit ko, kinuha ko siya a week before application of visa.

Kelangan din ng bank statement mo. I think 10kaed is enough for 15 days since may guarantor ka naman. As per my experience :)

      Regards,
      Jorge

    4. hi michael may tanong na naman ako..hihi for embassy purposes lang naman lahat ng mga ipapasa sa kanila noh? hindi na naman hanapin sa immigration? kasi for example i've change my mind kc. mag totourist nalang within 5 days din ung ipapasa na schedula of stay and flight is 5 days din dba? tpos dba magbibigay sila ng 15 days sa visa.so after mabigyan if ever hopefully pwede na echange lahat like ung flight na ebobook is for 15 days na talaga.. ok lang ba un sa immigration? change na lahat ng plano after mabigyan ng visa..hindi ba magkoconflict sa immigration un? salamat ng marami.. ;) God Bless!

    1. Sorry for my late response. I don't know if nakapag-apply ka na but as per sa question mo. Basta make sure na alam mo yung itinerary mo especially yung pupuntahan mo. Goodluck sayo! Let me know if may questions ka pa.

  68. Hi Michael! Unfortunately my cousin booked for me, my mother and my brother a confirmed ticket going to Japan scheduled on March 26-30. Ang problema ko mag-end na ang contract ko sa work ko ng March 21 and I decided not to renew kasi may family business naman kami sa Pinas na gusto ko na lang imanage since maliit lang naman salary ko dito. I am currently working in Abu Dhabi. Humingi ako ng salary certificate sa HR namin pero di na nilagyan ng leave date kasi nga uuwi na ako for good. Ang ticket ko ay mnl-nrt nrt-mnl. I have prepared the business permit and bank statement ko sa Pinas since I and my mom naman has joint account. I have travelled 5 Asian countries na. Kinumpleto ko naman req ko. Kinakabahan lang ako kasi nagresign na ako. Ihonor kaya nila yung reason ko why I ain't coming back to UAE. Hope you could help me bago ako magsubmit ng req sa Feb 16. Salamat.

    1. Hi there,

Thanks for visiting my blog. During your visa application may interview din siya na. If tanungin siya sayo be honest lang. Present mo yung confirmed booking niyo ng mother at brother mo to support your travel plan sa Japan. I'm sure it will help you kase makikita nila na you'll come to Dubai na kasama ang family. Nag apply na ba sila ng Visa? If yes, mas maganda eh ipresent mo din yung approved visa nila. Wala namang mawawala if susubukan mo. Maluwag ang Japan ngayon when it comes on giving Visa to Filipinos. I'm sure maaapproved ka basta follow mo lang yung requirements nila at mag provide ka ng mga supporting documents if ever man may hindi ka maibigay. Goodluck on your visa application!

  70. Hi

    Thank you.

  72. hahaha. great blog! nag apply ako kanina, medyo kinabahan ako ng slight ha. mahiyain kasi ako pero all good! kasama ko si misis. marami din pinoys nag aapply.

    ganito nangyari.

    1. pasok kami security scanner, baggage x-rays and metal detectors just like in the airports. show your passport, they will log your names, mobile and passport numbers. surrender your hard drives, mobile phones, they will give you a claim number. Your small stuff will be placed in a pigeon box, so no mobile phones inside the visa section.

    2. get a number from the kiosk, and then sit and wait for you turn. it's a small area with few seats.

    3. they will flash the number on the led light and we approached the counter, there's a tinted glass where you can slightly see the japanese lady behind it, they will ask you to remove your papers in folders and envelopes. drop your papers inside a small chute on the counter and they will pick it up from the other side.

    4. they will check everything and return "excessive documents" For instance, we applied as a couple so, the other duplicates were returned. They just used one document for both of us.

    5. They will remove stapled visa application forms so don't staple the 2 sheets. Especially the photo don't staple them use a glue. If you stapled the other documents, relax! they will accept them, it's not like you're going to be denied or they will be rude on you because of that :)

    6. They asked us questions. The whole time it was very casual, so we kept our smiles during the interview. But it was fast, don't worry of not getting the right answers. As long as you're honest and you know what exactly you're going to do in Japan, you should be fine. Maybe they are just testing you.

    Here's the dialogue:

Japanese lady: First time in Japan?
    me: Yes
Japanese lady: Do you know someone from there? Any friends?
    me: no
Japanese lady: What's your purpose of travel?
    me: sightseeing, leisure
misis: it's our anniversary! (japanese lady smiled)
me: it's actually a delayed celebration
Japanese lady: How many years in Dubai?
    Me: since 2006
Japanese lady: How many years is that?
Me: (mahina sa math :)) 9?
Misis: 10! (we realized after the interview the right answer is 11 hahaha)
What places are you going to see? Where will you be going?
Me: Around the tourist spots - Akihabara, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Roppongi, visiting markets
Japanese lady: What kind of markets? Where?
    Me: Small markets
    Japanese lady: Like where?
Me: Ameyoko, Nakamise (these areas are like Karama in Tokyo) Tip: Don't tell them shopping at Ginza because that's like Beverly Hills Lane in Tokyo and if that doesn't match your Bank statement, they will see some kind of inconsistency. Don't fall into those trick questions.
Japanese lady is writing these places on your document.
Japanese lady: Are you a couple? You're together right?
    Us: Yes! Married couple.
She stamped small and long stickers at the back of our passport with numbers and bar codes, she gave us the receipt or claiming form with the same bar code, sticker.
Japanese lady: Come back on Thursday, from 12-1:30 to collect them.
Me: Can one of us just collect them?
    Japanese lady: Yes.
    Us:Ok, thanks, Arigatou!

    Off we go.

I will let you know the result on Thursday, I'll post them here. But we have a good feeling that it will be approved!

  74. Hello Miko!

im just wondering will it be an issue for my bank statement if there will be a sudden big amount deposited to my account? since i dont have maintained balance on my account and my friends invited me to come with them and they will transfer money to have enough good balance on my account.

    ReplyDelete
  75. If you can present at least 7-10,000 aed. That's safe for 5 days in Tokyo.. But realistically, you will spend less. Your itinerary should match the money you're going to present. Make it realistic.

  79. Hi..

Hope you would notice this message, I was rejected last year, June 2016 ako ngapply. Siguro dahil sa 11th month ko pa lang nun and medyo magulo and unrealistic ang itinerary ko and during that time 4 days ang gsto kong kunin. BUT now, planning to try again this coming June 2017 and will ask for 6 days. So ask ko lang, is it possible na yung dummy ticket na ipapakita ko is from Dubai to Japan but my REAL PLAN is manggagaling ako sa Pinas to Japan, meaning I will buy my ticket as soon as makuha ko yung Japan Visa PERO from Pinas ako. Will it cause a problem ba? Important lng ba na malagyan ng visa ang passport then I may travel from Pinas to Japan without declaring it sa pgkuha ko ng Visa? Advance Thank You.

    1. Yup pwede yun, diskartehan mo na lang and make sure yung mga dates sakto sa itinerary mo... ganun ginawa ko, yung skn since legit naman na yung ticket ko going to pinas, dummy ticket from pinas to japan pinagawa ko... di na nila mamomonitor yun...

  80. Hi!

    ReplyDelete

  82. @mark L - you can apply visa in 2 ways: here sa dubai or sa pinas but since you're a uae resident they will not ask you too much papers the same as filipinos in the philippines, the uae law still applies. Pero if i were you apply nako ng visa dito before flying to Pinas. 3 months naman validity nun. (You need to enter Japan within 3 months) Baka mas madali dito, walang humihingi ng "extra" or yung pila mas matagal. just be honest. if you apply the visa here. show them your ticket booking from dxb to phils and your booking from phils to japan. you can try the refundable flights. i'm not sure how dummy ticket works from pinas.

    2. Hi ms Mai,

      Delete
